The Museum of the Aleutians is hosting a chocolatey family fun event, February 11, from noon until 4pm! During Choc-O-Lot, guests can play games in our galleries, sample Chugach Chocolate flavors, and there will be a special Jeopardy game at 2:00 in the changing gallery.
This event is free for members, and is free for those who bring chocolate baked goods or other items for the potluck (please email education@aleutians.org or call Thomas McLenigan at 907-581-5150 with what food items you will be bringing, due to DEC regulations there are some limitations, as the Museum does not have means to keep refrigerated foods at temperature).
Wildlife Craft Nights with Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge
Class is free. All materials will be provided. The creature will take more than 2 hours to complete so you will be able to take supplies to complete at home on your own. This is for ages 12 and up. Maximum of 16 participants. Basic sewing skills are very helpful! Everyone will be contacted a few days before to make sure you are coming in case there are folks on the waiting list to possibly come.

This is a hands-on kids workshop that will let kids experience the art of gyotaku! Fish, ink, paper, and other supplies will be provided.
Dwight Hwang has been practicing and teaching the art of gyotaku for over 20 years. The Museum of the Aleutians is excited to join the list of other institutions and organizations that have displayed Mr. Hwang's artwork and hosted workshops, including NOAA, Patagonia, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, and Four Seasons Resorts.

This is a hands on two hour workshop that will cover the basics of the art of gyotaku. Fish will be available for participants to print, or you can bring your own fish to print (must be under 16" in largest dimension). Ink, paper, and other supplies will be provided. This workshop is designed for participants over the age of 18.
Dwight Hwang has been practicing and teaching the art of gyotaku for over 20 years. In partnership with the Qawalangin Tribe, and APIA, the museum will be hosting one of two Collections Care workshops to help community members care for and preserve personal collections.
The lecturer, Sarah Owens, is the owner of Interwoven Fibers LLC, and will discuss basic preservation techniques and how to care for family heirlooms, cultural items, and art collections.
